It is not EASTER! Rather GOOD FRIDAY!

ree

Why do they call it Easter?

History reminds that the date and name of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ was changed at the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. At this meeting the resurrection day was named 'Easter Sunday’. The church authority made a decree that, “Easter should be observed on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the Spring Equinox.” Therefore, it is the evidence that, those who observe the resurrection of Jesus Christ according to the present date are despising the biblical records.

Who was this Easter?

The name Easter comes from the German word Ostern, which comes from Eostre, or Eostrae. This Easter was the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring and fertility. The Council of Nicaea passed laws to coincide commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the worship of Easter, the goddess of spring and fertility.

Since that time until now, many Christians celebrate Jesus’ resurrection day as Easter Sunday. Though some Christians claim that they celebrate Easter Sunday to commemorate Jesus’ Resurrection but most people in western Christian countries know this day as the Easter Egg and Easter Banny Festival. In this season of Easter festival the shopping malls and markets exhibit to sell colored Easter Eggs and Banny baskets, which are the symbol of goddess of spring and fertility. People seldom think about Jesus Christ and the significance of the resurrection day Jesus Christ.

What does The Bible call it?!

First to point out that nowhere in The Bible it is referred to as "Easter Friday"! or "Easter Sunday". What we do know is that Jesus was crucified the day before The Sabbath (which falls on a Saturday). We also know that Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week (what we refer to as Sunday).

John 19 The Death of Jesus

28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. 31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.

John 20 The Empty Tomb

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). 17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

Why we may refer to it as a good Friday.

There is nothing good about a cross or dying on a cross or even dying on a cross on a Friday! The good for us is that it was a a sinless man; Jesus Christ; who died on the cross for us on a Friday!

Romans 6

Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Never forget!

It is not about the day, it is not about Easter, it is not about Easter eggs nor is it about a Easter bunny!

IT IS ALL ABOUT JESUS CHRIST AND HIS DEATH ON A CROSS AND HIS HIS RESURRECTION FOR US!
