Sons & Daughters have Privileges

Romans 8: 12-17

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we Cry, “Abba Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Know you are a child of God!

We are not born as Children of God. No, we became children by faith (believing) in what jesus did for us and by accepting Him as our Saviour!

John 1: 12:

"Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God"

True Sons and Daughters are heirs!

Romans chapter 8 makes it clear that as children we are Heirs. We are Heirs of Jesus. That makes Jesus Christ our Testator! What do we know about our Testator? He died for us! That means that everything in His Will (The Word of God) becomes available to His heirs.

Now here is the problem: Many heirs never take into posession their inheritance as sons and dauhters, but rather keep living as slaves. Their problem? They never grow in maturity but remain as babes or small children! Look at Galations chapter 4.

Galations 4

"Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ."
