The Key of Repentance

With the more relaxed style of preaching in the Modern Western church, there a came Grace with lesser and lesser emphasize on repentance. So the question is Repentance important to God?

To Show the importance of repentance let us ask ourselves what was the first message Jesus preached?! In Matthew Chaper 4 we see Jesus being led by The Spirit into the dssert where He is then tempted by Satan for 40 days. Jesus never gave in to the temptation and comes out of the desert in the power of The Spirit. It is from here that Jesus then started to preach:

Matthew 4: 17

"From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Why is repentance so important?

Well simple in order to turn to Jesus you need to turn away (reptent) of your sin first!

But take notice there are 2 types of repentance!

2 Corinthians 7: 10

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

Godly sorrow is when you are convicted by The Holy Spirit deep inside to let go of your sinful ways and turn to God. Worldly sorrow is the sorrow of "the thief that is caught out and now feels sorrowful for the situation he is in"

Why Repent? Because with repentance comes confession and without confession where cannot be forgiveness of sin!

1 John 1: 9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

At times you will have to confess your sin to brothers(and sisters) in Christ

James 5: 16

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
